Branson county sheriff Hank Worth struggles to uncover the truth behind a fatal car crash in this absorbing mystery. Hank Worth thinks he's performed a good deed when he pulls over the car of six teens caught speeding on a Saturday night and lets them off with a warning and instructions to go home. When he responds to an urgent call minutes later, he realises he made a fatal error of judgement – every teen is dead. Struggling to come to terms with his role in the crash, Hank begins to suspect foul play. While notifying the parents of the children involved, his suspicions grow when an unidentified body is discovered in one of their homes and a teenage girl is found after apparently attempting to commit suicide. Hank believes the incidents are connected, but those around him disagree. Is Hank right, or is his guilt making him search for answers where there are none?|A car crash leaves behind six dead teenagers and a shaken sheriff Hank Worth – he pulled them over and sent them away with just a warning minutes earlier. Hank suspects there is more to the crash, a feeling exacerbated when a body is discovered in one of the victim's homes. Are Hank's suspicions right, or is guilt playing tricks on his mind?

Reviews-
February 15, 2019 In the third Hank Worth mystery, Booth explores a new side of the Branson, Missouri, sheriff. Less than an hour after Hank lets some joyriding kids off with a stern warning, their car goes off the road in a horrifying accident. All six kids are dead, and Hank blames himself. Even after he learns that at least one the six teenagers is not who he claimed to be, Hank can't keep himself from shouldering the blame for the kids' deaths. A murder that may be related to the teens complicates matter further. The most introspective of the Worth novels may also be its slowest-paced, although that's not a bad thing. Some readers may welcome the opportunity for a good, long look inside Hank's psyche, although others might prefer a little less reflection and a little more action. All in all, this is a thoughtful entry in an increasingly solid series, particularly for the added dimension it brings to the protagonist.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)
